There seems to be an error in log4shib/Portfile for the MacPort 
downloaded from:
http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/downloads/shibboleth/cppsp/latest/mac/ports.tar

The master_sites line should be:
http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/downloads/log4shib/${version}/

and not

http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/downloads/log4shib/{version}/

The same kind of error can be found in the opensaml Portfile where it 
should be
http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/downloads/opensaml/cpp/${version}/

Otherwise the download will fail.

Other than that, compilation/installation was seamless and error free 
(not to mention very convenient) on the latest Intel MacBook Pro 
DualCore 2 and 10.5.2 Leopard.

Shibd started fine, but when loading mod_shib, Apache complains:

httpd: Syntax error on line 484 of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Syntax error 
on line 2 of /private/etc/apache2/other/shibboleth.conf: Syntax error on 
line 13 of /opt/local/etc/shibboleth/apache22.config: Cannot load 
/opt/local/lib/shibboleth/mod_shib_22.so into server: 
dlopen(/opt/local/lib/shibboleth/mod_shib_22.so, 10): no suitable image 
found.  Did find:\n\t/opt/local/lib/shibboleth/mod_shib_22.so: mach-o, 
but wrong architecture

I knew that the wiki page
https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/SHIB2/NativeSPMacPortInstallation 
says that the mac port was only used with PPC 32 Bit architectures but 
in theory it should work nevertheless on an Intel-Based mac. Any hint?
