Ok, here is what happened, in case anyone is interested.

I posted I was trying to create SAPs using miniSAPserver,
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/VideoLAN-HOWTO/x1315.html

Yesterday, it was running at maybe 3-5% CPU, with the following entries in the cfg file:

[global]
sap_delay=30
interface=en0

[program]
name=Connecticut College Ch1
user=Connecticut College
machine=136.244.96.102
site=http://www.conncoll.edu
address=233.88.214.137
port=1234
playlist_group=ConnColl miniSAPserver

[program]
name=Connecticut College Ch3
user=Connecticut College
machine=136.244.96.104
site=http://www.conncoll.edu
address=233.88.214.139
port=5432
playlist_group=ConnColl miniSAPserver

This ran all night long, apparently without disrupting anyone. However, I could not pick up the Ch3 MPEG4 SAPS in VLC, so today I deleted the first program (an MPEG2 stream that miniSAPserver was creating a SAP fine for) and changed the second program to:

[program]
name=Connecticut College Ch3
user=Connecticut College
machine=136.244.96.104
site=http://www.conncoll.edu
address=233.88.214.139
port=5432
address=233.88.214.139
port=5434
playlist_group=ConnColl miniSAPserver

This seemed to create the following stream in the server, viewed in terminal

v=0
o=Connecticut College 16916 1 IN IP4 136.244.96.104
s=Connecticut College Ch3
u=http://www.conncoll.edu
c=IN IP4 233.88.214.139/255
t=0 0
a=tool:miniSAPserver 0.3.4
a=x-plgroup:ConnColl miniSAPserver
a=type:broadcast
a=charset:UTF-8
m=video 54325434 udp 33

I think I then noticed the CPU went up to 60%, I then changed the program to

[program]
name=Connecticut College Ch3
user=Connecticut College
machine=136.244.96.104
site=http://www.conncoll.edu
address=233.88.214.139
port=5434
playlist_group=ConnColl miniSAPserver

But the CPU utilization did not go down...Then I go a call from our network admis that there was a problem.
Don't worry, not starting miniSAPserver again without them holding my hand! If ever actually.

My sincerest apologies, I did not thing it was possible to create so much havoc with a little free program.
