There's clearly a middle ground though, and there's a school of thought that
says that there isn't one; people shouldn't have to understand what they
use, everything should be automatic, and anything that isn't or demands even
a little competence is a failure in design.

There's a lot that we can do to fool people into thinking running an IdP is
simple. It's an open question whether that's a good service to the community
even if it's a benefit to the project or the marketing effort. I go back and
forth on how much I care about being honest with people. In some ways
testshib is a good example, something I've always been ambivalent about.

There are certainly plenty of examples out there of embedded containers, and
I always find myself thinking "what crazy person thinks this is the right
thing to do for a real deployment?" So does that suggest it's a good idea or
a bad idea to offer it?
