Hi,
Once you create an rpm package you can easily convert to a deb package (using alien).

I'm not an RPM expert, but AFAIK it is normally possible to create a more or less generic spec file, that only has to be compiled and packaged on different target systems. Often you also just get one RPM for all distribution.
We should only support one or two distribution at all! RPMs or other formats for other distributions can be provided by someone else. That's typical for OpenSource: If you need it, just do it and provide your changes for others.

But perhaps someone with more experience on RPM or similar package management has a different view on that?
