I think there are currently many uses of high rate apps on top of ASM,
but you often never see them outside an AS. Of course these apps could
be said to be emulating SSM since there is often only a single source.
For example, many sites sites have file distribution software running
on top of ASM and as many here know, NU relies on ASM (IGMPv3 is not
required) for delivering of over 20 2 Mb/s MPEG-2 TV streams.

It seems to me that ASM will remain in the enterprise for quite some
time. The issues you and others raised are quite valid, but more so
for inter-domain uses of multicast. ASM works relatively well at and
in the edges even if the apps may fit within the class of apps well
suited for SSM.
