John, technically you are right that ASM includes bidir,
but I'd rather you just called it Bidir and keep
ASM to mean PIM-SM/MSDP/MBGP.

But John, thats not correct.

ASM is service model defined by a host asking explicitly
for the group and implicitly receiving any source associated
with that group (modulo any policy filtering in the network)
Example IGMPv2/MLDv1 and PIM-SM provide this model
as does IGMPv2/MLDv1 and PIM-bidir for v6 multicast

- PIM-SM/MSDP/MBGP is a way to run PIM-SM based ASM model
interdomain.

SSM is the service model defined by a host asking explicitly
for the group AND explicitly for the source(s) of that
group.
Example IGMPv3/MLDv2 and PIM-SSM provide this model

I'll leave the debate over ASM vs SSM to you, I can only
say we're seeing both used successfully.
