We used to do this for InQueue, and would receive metadata retractions 
-- "sorry, please fix this" -- three or four times a week.  Some people 
even went through multiple iterations of it.

As Scott suggests, once users (if users ever) become more sophisticated 
in their metadata use, it'll probably be easier for them to edit by 
hand or use a more complex tool than try to fit all that customization 
into a one-size-fits-all web script.
