As a follow-up, I notice that the ownership of these files when 
installed using the Debian packages is tomcat55:root so the files would 
be writeable by tomcat.

Apparently the ownership that I encountered (perfsonar:perfsonar) is 
just an issue with the Debian installation DVD?
