Hi Laurie;
OK, this is a known issue. The 3.3.x series of NDT package has a bunch of changes including IPv4/v6 addressing and a new Firewall Detection mechanism. These changes make the 3.3.x client incompatible with older 3.1.x servers. The Java client isn't effected because it is downloaded on demand when the client connects to the server. However the command line client will fail. The client does attempt to detect and report this condition so you have some idea of what happened.
The Abilene NDT servers are still the old 3.1.x servers. You can try testing to the web100.internet2.edu server, or some of the remote servers that I know have upgrades (SWITCH, NSF, and Stanford). Or you can grab one of the older ndt packages if you want to test to an old server.

Just installed Gentoo Linux on a Dell 1850 and then applied the kernel patch for Web100. That piece went very smoothly.
As a first test I downloaded the latest ndt package (ndt-3.3.19), compiled the web100clt command line tool and attempted to test to one of my running measurement servers - I got he following message:
localhost src # ./web100clt -n ntap1.merit.edu
Testing network path for configuration and performance problems -- Using IPv4 address
Information: The server 'ntap1.merit.edu' does not support this command line client
I then tested with the indianapolis ndt server and got the same message:
localhost src # ./web100clt -ddd -l -n ndt-indianapolis.abilene.ucaid.edu
Testing network path for configuration and performance problems -- Using IPv4 address
Requesting test suite:
> Middlebox test
> Simple firewall test
> C2S throughput test
> S2C throughput test
Information: The server 'ndt-indianapolis.abilene.ucaid.edu' does not support this command line client
I then checked that web100 was correctly installed by checking if /proc/web100 dir exists and also entering the readall command.
Here's the information on the version of linux with the web100 patch.
Linux localhost 2.6.17-gentoo-r8 #1 Tue Oct 24 17:12:58 EST 2006 i686 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz GNU/Linux
What am I missing here?
Cheers
Laurie
