Is that intended to be THE way to do this type of thing, or are there plans to add this into the API (and UI)? While this might work for small groups, it certainly doesn't scale very well if the group I'm wanting to move has 60,000 members.

Just for kicks, I tried manually moving the group by changing database values, and I only had to change two -- the id for the parent_stem, and the "name" attribute. Stems would only be slightly more difficult, since all child groups and stems would need to have their name updated. Did I overlook anything else that should have been updated?

You should be able to use the XML import/export tool for this purpose. See <https://wiki.internet2.edu/confluence/display/ GrouperWG/Import-Export+v1.0>.

It'd be good to include an example of how to "prune & graft", like you're wanting to do, in that wiki page.

can groups or stems be moved to somewhere else in the group hierarchy? Looking at the database I can't think of any technical reason why this wouldn't be possible, unless I'm overlooking something.
