Well, considering what you can do with OpenLDAP & its overlays these
days it's probably possible to forgo flattened memberships
("everything") in the DIT completely (improving provisioning
efficiency, probably at the cost of slightly degrading search/compare
performance), but I have not looked into that specifically.
