I don't see why not tie email, IM, and voice together to make it quicker 
to reach someone in their preferred channel.  The article is talking 
about how presence technology ties all the communication channels 
together and that presence is basically what unified communications was 
waiting for.  Nothing astonishing or new here, but the article is a good 
overview.
