As a side note: a naïve person might ask if the Apple IPR issue is now
effectively history, since the SSM patent (5,517,494) was applied for
in September 1994 and granted in May 1996, and both of those dates are
now more than 20 years in the past. However, a cynicist might suspect
there's a legal loophole which doesn't make it so.
