Thanks, I tried it with just one app, and got it to create two windows. (on Mac)
I first opened VLC the normal way...clicking on it, and entered the URL.
I saved it as an M3U file to the desktop.
I selected the PID I wanted to play.

I determined the path of VLC (have to open the package)

Then I went to terminal, and typed the path
/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC
This gave me another player, I dragged the M3U file into the playlist, and selected a different PID.
So it seems you don't always need two copies?

Frank

That I can help with, assuming you're on a Mac. In general, Mac apps don't like to run multiple instances, I believe because of issues with preferences files and the like. But there are ways around that:

- Install two different versions, for example the release and a trunk or branch nightly build (I usually have one of those around for testing anyway).

- Make two copies of the same version, with different names.

- Invoke the program from Finder by clicking on the icon, and then start Terminal and invoke it from the command line. That will likely be something like "/Applications/vlc/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/ VLC".

I just did the last one, and found that indeed it complains about one of the prefs files, but both copies run and they can display the two different program streams.

Bill.
