Guys,

Unfortunately, "open source" does not always equal "free" and most
certainly does not equal "non-infringing".  To be clear, VBrick has no
patents in this area and does not receive royalty...we pay it.  I wish
it were different.  There is a royalty to be paid for any decoding of
MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AAC audio, and any recording of MPEG-4. People just need
to use understand the rules to stay out of legal trouble when deploying
production systems.  The royalty problem is why so many people end up
deploying WM where there is no user royalty.  Just a FYI.

I remember hearing this about the vbrick player.  Maybe that's what
you're thinking of.

if you think about it, the open source guys can easily get away with
flaunting this but a commercial enterprise like vbrick has actual assets
to protect.
