Hello;

Of course, but 100 kbps isn't very realistic for encoding 1080i or 720p
video, right? I'd expect bitrates 6 - 12 Mbps. BTW, you can use
Apple's trailers for testing if you like - they seem to have about the
reasonable compression to get the video through medium-bandwidth
lines.

But that's exactly my point. Without a bit rate, I cannot evaluate claims of
the ability to do this or that (or not) at any resolution.

Also, coming from the computer / network side of things, I have to
say that I never
intend to source any interlaced video, at least on my own dime. Why
use a 70 year old analog
compression technology if you don't have to ?

Because 1080 @ 50/60p cameras are really really hard (expensive) to get
and also because it's a lot more data? And the trick is 30p is different
from 60i - if you look into motion smoothness, it's IMHO better to go for
60i than 30p. Of course, the holy grail would be 60p, but at least wea
are not rich enough to get 60p cameras at 1920x1080.

Record in the highest quality you can afford - it will retain value longer.

Regards
Marshall

BTW, I'm also coming from the computer side and I don't like interlacing as
you do.
