This sounds like expected behavior.

I think that SDR sends a packet every 5 minutes or so. If that's the case
then the three minute timeout of PIM-SM state is reasonable and expected.

Remember, the MSDP SA is *NOT* going to be in the PIM RP that does the
PIM-SM Register -> MSDP SA conversion, probably your border router. Look
at the next hop, like the gigapop or abilene routers, SA-cache.

What's the IP address of the SDR originating machine? I'd like to see if
it's 1) in my M-BGP tables and 2) if it's in my MSDP SA-cache.

Also, the NLANR beacon runs fine on Windows, using the standard Windows
Java VM that comes with MSIE. http://dast.nlanr.net/projects/beacon for
the code, http://beaconserver.accessgrid.org:9999 for the display. Run
that to see if you're transmissions are making it out correctly, and to
establish PIM-SM state that isn't dependant on 5-minute interval single
packets.
