It is not using JQuery today. The use of JQuery will, at best, keep the size the same and will likely increase the overall size. But again, its use is *not* the topic of this thread.

it? The browser can't load the same scripts from the cache when they're
served by different sites, can it?

Size is reduced because of reduced code duplication. Any JS widget like
the one the embedded DS is implementing has to do a lot of common stuff
and all of that is available in JQuery. Since the app is probably using
JQuery anyway if it is doing JS-based widgets at all then the total size
of loaded JS component should be reduced.
