So, just to be clear, gij is NOT Java where Java is defined as a 
particular bytecode format, runtime environment, and a specific set of 
classes.  gij uses a different binary format, the C++ runtime, and a 
different set of classes with some overlap of the Java classes.  So 
using gij is *really* hard.
