So, just to be clear, gij is NOT Java where Java is defined as a particular bytecode format, runtime environment, and a specific set of classes. gij uses a different binary format, the C++ runtime, and a different set of classes with some overlap of the Java classes. So using gij is *really* hard.

Rule of thumb...avoid any and all "packaged" Linux Java code at all costs.
It's all a mess compared to the tarballs. Unless of course "manageability"
trumps "actually working", then go to town.
