Completely agreed of course.
What's the progress with DLS anyway?
We could also use CLS for starters until the DLS comes alive.
(One LS that everyone registers its services into)

I share Chris' question: what are CLS?

Hi,
I think we need to be clear if we are talking about the current partial
implementation of the framework, or the design goals.

Right now static URL names are a good thing that will lead to stability,
and improved diagnostic capability.

As soon as we have a stable DLS deployed, then I think we need to make
a clean break with the idea of services at static URLs. We will need to
force applications to properly use the DLS, so that we can reap
the benefits of a dynamic architecture.

Hi all,

I agree with David, Andreas & Nina, there should be only one stable
URL name be used for each service.

Hi Nicolas,

David and I share the opinion of Nina and would prefer that the URL does
not contain a version and is therefore more stable. Otherwise, it may be
unclear if the service has been updated or is unavailable.

Hi Loukik, Michalis

Can you tell about the rationale for having the release version name?

Hi Nina and Andreas,

Would you prefer to limit the URL changes of the web-services or do
you prefer to have the product version in the URL?

Cheers,
Nicolas

Hi,

looking at the web-services names
http://rrd-ma.perfsonar.xxx:8080/perfSONAR-RRD-MA-2.2/services/MeasurementArchiveService

I see there is a part mentioning the service version(2.2). Is there a
particular benefit of seeing the service version?

I am wondering about this, because when the service will be updated,
the
version will be updated and the tools won't be able to access it
until
they are updated.
It this statement correct?

Nicolas,

AFAIR it was a requirement from Release Mgmt. Team for perfSONAR 2.0.
You should contact Loukik or Luis in order to get more information
about
the reason for using version number.

Anyway, Ilias and Roman are right - that's default name (contaning
version number) and everybody can change it after the installation.
