Jeremy,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I might end up trying the live CD route if I 
can't get this working.  I _have_ successfully applied custom kernels in the 
past, but it has been a while.  I will definitely take a look at that link.  
Do you know offhand of a way to extract the iso image to a hard drive?

This may not be the answer your looking for, but unless your completely
comfortable with manually compiling software/kernels, I would suggest you use
the pS-Performance Toolkit LiveCD. This is by far the easiest way to run a 
NDT box.

You simply boot your server off the CD and after some basic config, you have a
working NDT box (along with all the other tools included in perfSONAR-PS).
Server requirements for this are minimal. Basically you need a server with at
least 1GB ram, 10GB hard drive (to save customized settings), bootable CD ROM
drive, P4 CPU, and ethernet NIC. I used this method to deploy NDT/perfSONAR-PS
boxes in each of our 15 datacenters utilizing old server hardware.

FYI, if you do use the LiveCD, make sure the IP for your NDT server has a
reverse DNS PTR entry that maps back to the correct hostname of the server 
since
this appears to be how the toolkit creates clickable links to some of the 
tools
including NDT on the server's home page.
