Hi Matt;

When I started developing this tool it was JDK 1.2.2. So yes, you can compile the applet with an older JDK or you can put something on the web page and let the user update the JVM software on the client. (ANL put up some text saying that if the applet window is blank then update the Java VM plugin.)

Your choice.

Hi Rich-

I think the Microsoft JVM being used is Java 1.1.4. I'm basing this on a user report, <http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/upgrade-guide/> and <http://javatester.org/version.html>, as I don't have access to a machine with the MS JVM.

I'm using Sun JDK 1.4.2_09-b05 on the server. So, if I install an older version of the JDK and recompile, it might work? Any suggestions on what version I should try? (How low^H^H^Hold can we go? :)

Thanks-
Matt

Hi Matt;

Yes there are some JVM comparability issues. So far it doesn't matter what browser is used, as long as the Java SDK and JVM versions are close. What version of Java is on the XP machine? What version of the SDK did you use to compile the applet?

Hi all-

I have a user on WinXP Pro, IE 6, MS JVM who is unable to use NDT
(the applet does not load). I'm guessing that this is an
incompatibility with the Microsoft JVM. Has anyone been able to run
the client in the MS JVM? Is the Sun JVM required?

Thanks-
Matt

I had assumed that Win98 failed because it is old (but come to think of
it the Internet Exploder on it is current) so I expect Sun JVM is likely the
answer. I haven't yet done that on the Windazed machine, the Mac on my desk
does fine ...
