K-20 librarians interactive video conferencing

George and Carolyn Breaz Media Specialists at Advanced Technologies Academy, Clark County School District, Las Vegas Nevada.  We also, as part of or duties coordinate video and web conferencing for the school focusing on global content, connecting student with students throughout the word.  Our backgrounds include teaching, managing 9-12 Media Centers, designing online learning environments for DODEA, STEM curriculum development, and are concurrently working on PHDs in the field of Computer Management Systems in Instructional Design.  

• Please describe your past experience or interest in using videoconferencing within your organization.
  

Carolyn and I were one of the early pioneers with the “Digital Library of Congress” (1998) outreach program as part of a National Innovation Challenge Grant. One of our tasks was to provide live videoconferencing experiences for teachers interested in lesson development using the American Memory collection.   Early presenters of the program included Judy Graves, Leni Donlan, Karen Needles, and Elizabeth Ridgway.  We continue to utilize video and web conferencing by adding 2 additional Polycom video conferencing systems and Scopia desktop webconferencing software.

  2) What's the most important thing you hope to get out of participating in this group?

Connecting students to students both nationally and internationally.  Connecting with Media Specialists/Librarians

  3) Are there specific questions, topics, collaborative activities you'd like the group to explore together?

Blended learning techniques, Project based learning, STEM, Global video conferencing initiatives.
