Hi Benedikt,

I think I can answer these.

  1. I don’t see a problem with changing staff profiles, including adding new collaborators as long as the lead institution (the contracting entity for the sub-award) stays the same.
  2. Yes. NSF style project summary is advised. The reviewers will be asked to comment on Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts.
  3. You should assume that there will be some reviewers who saw your phase 1 proposal and some who haven’t.  All reviewers will be provided with your Phase 1 project plans, presentations and final reports as well as your phase 2 proposals.

Regards, Jamie.

Hi Nili,

A couple of questions developed over the course of putting together the Phase 2 proposal:

1. Can we add collaborators at the 0% level from other institutions?

2. The Project Summary, is that an NSF style project summary with Intellectual Merit and Broader Impact?

3. Should we assume the panel reviewing the Phase 1 report is different from Phase 2? I just want to understand what detail we should go into.

Yes, you may include references separately.  We had not specified that for either Phase I or II in the interest of relative brevity but we are happy for you to include them.

Hi Nili,

* Please confirm that another section in the proposal for references is allowed.

Thanks,  Wayne

Th premise for salary and fringe remains the same as in Phase I, with the exception that for Phase II, you may consider expanding salary and fringe for up to $80K in direct costs.  Depending on your indirect cost rates and this could your anticipated cloud resource usage,  this would likely mean that your cloud resource usage would be reduced in order to accommodate the total funding cap of $831K (direct plus indirects) for a given subaward.

I am slightly confused by the statement:

the original premise of $40K for salary and fringe

Is there a typo there?

Otherwise, I understand the rules.

Salvador - our expectations are that everyone will actually stay close to the original premise of $40K for salary and fringe, plus $500K for cloud credits, plus indirect costs recovered on everything ($81K never covered indirects).  We are trying to give folks some flexibility to use up to $80K in direct costs for salary, and then as much cloud credits they can pay for beyond that as long as everyone maintains the overall total funding cap.  I hope that helps.

Nili,

Thanks so much for your email and the updated guidelines. I just want to check with you that I understood correctly the following points:

  • We have to use the campus indirect cost rate, which in our case is 61.5%. This means we can only ask for ~434k (instead of 500k) for Cloud services, i.e. direct costs 80k+434k = 514k; indirect costs = 61.5% * 514 = 316k; Total ~= 831k.

  • The total for salary+fringe has now been changed to 80k (before ws 81k).

  • Sheet 1 of the attached excel still has the old budget guidelines, but we can ignore those.

Thanks again,

Salva
