Th premise for salary and fringe remains the same as in Phase I, with the exception that for Phase II, you may consider expanding salary and fringe for up to $80K in direct costs.  Depending on your indirect cost rates and this could your anticipated cloud resource usage,  this would likely mean that your cloud resource usage would be reduced in order to accommodate the total funding cap of $831K (direct plus indirects) for a given subaward.

Salvador - our expectations are that everyone will actually stay close to the original premise of $40K for salary and fringe, plus $500K for cloud credits, plus indirect costs recovered on everything ($81K never covered indirects).  We are trying to give folks some flexibility to use up to $80K in direct costs for salary, and then as much cloud credits they can pay for beyond that as long as everyone maintains the overall total funding cap.  I hope that helps.

Nili,

 

Thanks so much for your email and the updated guidelines. I just want to check with you that I understood correctly the following points:

 

• We have to use the campus indirect cost rate, which in our case is 61.5%. This means we can only ask for ~434k (instead of 500k) for Cloud services, i.e. direct costs 80k+434k = 514k; indirect costs = 61.5% * 514 = 316k; Total ~= 831k.

 

• The total for salary+fringe has now been changed to 80k (before ws 81k).

 

• Sheet 1 of the attached excel still has the old budget guidelines, but we can ignore those.
