No this is not what we are doing.

A community resource that connects campuses which is the main point here
cannot have individual researchers take over all or part of the end-systems.
It is not a research testbed in the form requested.

Hmm. I need to understand in more detail how DYNES works. I thought we were
just running commands, not setting up an entire OS instance for every
connection.

This sounds more like running a cloud resource, if a VM is needed to manage
each connection.

Loading a separate OS image onto the FDT server for each remote
researcher, and running that with root access, is maybe the best way to
understand what is being asked for.

In principle any account can be mapped. In practice, we would need to see a
very detailed use case for why anyone from another institution would need
root access to one of our servers.

Hi all,
Another example is ESnet's 100G ANI testbed.
Every time we reserve a time slot for use of the testbed, our our own
OS image is loaded on the high-performance hosts and root access is available
to us.

This may be a good example for some DYNES participants who are not
using the DYNES end systems for actual production traffic.
