So, it appears there really are multiple questions.

The first specific question is: is there someway of merging Adi's
proposal into the one we submitted for the SMM? Although I want to work
with Radvision I have difficulty seeing how we could merge proposals at
this late date. But, this should be a group decision, IMHO.

The second Jamey also mentioned. That is the notion of a panel of
some sort discussing IM, perhaps as a service or a product. While
that might be in our domain I think it more nearly fits Michael Gettes'
I2IM group, which is napping at the moment. Unless the group thinks
otherwise, I think it would be polite of us to defer to him for this
tick of the member meeting clock at least.

In re Nortel, it's probably too late to initiate a proposal for
the SMM. However, does anyone have thoughts on inviting Nortel to
talk about their efforts in LBS to us? I'm for it.

Speaking of other efforts, the URL that Ted (Hi Ted) posted to
the list was very interesting. I note that H-P is prominently
mentioned a couple of times. Maybe this would be worth some
discussion. Alistair, if you're reading, are you familiar with JISC?
Is anyone? Would we want to see if the author would like to talk
to us?

Jeremy:

I'd be interested in a discussion about integration of IM into campus
IM services or between campus and IM service providers. This should
include talks about authentication and protocol interoperability. Anything
less than this probably doesn't belong in an I2 MM presentation.

Also I spoke with Nortel yesterday. The local Sales nudge believes he
or someone from Nortel would be available to speak at the I2 MM. The
idea of a Nortel person speaking came up because of a side conversation
about Nortel's latest wireless LAN products and how they fit into a health
care setting. Apparently Nortel has built some degree of location tracking
into their APs. This Sales person said he might be able to get someone
to speak about how Nortel is working with Vocera. Should I encourage
him or not?

Thanks,Steve

All,

I was going to put this on tomorrow's agenda but it might be
better to see if some quick consensus can be reached via email, if
only to help speed the program committee's decision. I'm beginning
to be a little concerned about lead time to the SMM and the
increasing potential difficulty of getting on speakers' schedules.

I think everyone is aware that Radvision is a valued Internet2
partner and produces excellent products. I've had conversations
with them a couple of times about joining our calls but to date
that hasn't happened. Adi's proposal certainly makes sense to me
but I'm not sure how it might fit into our proposal for the SMM.
Possibly this is just because we haven't yet worked together.

I'm not sure what to say. Thoughts, please?

Subject: Spring Member Meeting proposal

Jeremy & Michael,
Contacting you on behalf of the SMM program committee. Asking your views.
Jeremy, would a modified version of the following proposal be appropriate for inclusion in the PIC session?

As an alternative Todd Needham, as member of program committee, suggested a IM panel with representation from WG, Yahoo and Microsoft. Michael, your thoughts?

Presence-Based Multimedia Communications

Instant Messaging and presence is becoming the watchword and underlying communications architecture of today?s enterprise network. Whether IM came into the enterprise virally or through a decision by the IT manger, presence-based communications is become an important way people communicate. As IM becomes par of a larger communications strategy, how does the IT manger integrate it into a larger desktop multimedia communications architect of voice, video, and data communications and collaboration? In this session we will explore the architecture of Instant Messaging and presence and then discuss how it can be used as a tool for initiating an ad hoc point to point or multipoint conference. After that we will discuss other IT issues such as supporting other protocols, inviting in other non-IM video/voice end points, scheduling, scalability, deployment.
Adi Regev, RADVISION
