it has changed too many times in the IETF.

(and I don't refer to the historical set of nine IM&P standards ;),
historians may wish to look at 2000 status when there were only
three more left

there are now on the table two -00 WGs items

it will take some time till they get stable (hopefuly they will) and
implemented.

Till then, I think it is fair enough for most apps to change presence status
using local server interface. All in all, that's easier to do than building in
a SIP stack in every application.
