Subject: Re: multicast disconectivity?

We are starting the process, but some redesign is going to happen
first. Protocol, data sent, and packet format are all in the list of
potential changes. If anyone has ideas, please send them along.

In the mean time, i am hearing spruious reports of java beacon
problems. A couple people have reported that their beacon process
dies regularly. A couple more, like Alan, have beacons that spew
packets. Yet, the access grid community has a fairly stable 100+ set
of beacons running continually and there are some other communities
around that aren't reporting problems.

As you see unique instances of beacon failures, could you please send
the following information to
.
I want to see if
we can find patterns:

+ jvm type and version
+ OS type and version
+ error message (or packet trace if spewing packets but running)
+ startup script or command line with options

And if the beacon is just dying and you aren't seeing errors, make
sure you are capturing stdout.

My apologies if you have sent this or similar in and I missed it.
There are days, and then there are days. :)
