It is indeed surprising; the software just believes the sizes and lying to it
shouldn't matter, it is behaving as if you have
specified a min/max width...

Could you turn up logging for edu.internet2.middleware.shibboleth.idp.ui and
see what it says.

I have entered SIDP-485 for Tom's issue.
