In practice, it's not a big deal though, since SAML 1.0 and 1.1 are so similar.
Not a big deal, but every additional option is yet another thing to be configured and supported.
Have you considered submitting Shib to the E-Auth Interop Lab? There are only seven vendors on that list so it would be a big feather in your cap (depending on your point of view :).
We are working closely with them on exactly this. We think of it as a feather in their cap, though. 8^)
