Eli has probably already seen the page, but if you’re on this thread and haven’t yet, please see:

It might be nice to have more specificity around Amazon’s “Low”, “Low to Moderate”, “Moderate”, and “High”.

Thanks Steve.

It would be interesting to have a conversation with Amazon about expected data transfer performance numbers for different types of AWS instances, using different technologies (HTTP, Globus S3 connector, etc).

Do you think they might be receptive to something like this?

Thanks,

Eli

Does anyone if there is a good perfSONAR node in or close by to an Amazon cloud service (AWS) spot (east, west, etc) so that we can measure
how much throughput we get to AWS instances from our campus network?

We tried creating an instance ourselves and installing perfSONAR, which works. However, it seems to be bottlenecked by the AWS instance's
resource, not network connection.  (e.g., http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18507405/ec2-instance-typess-exact-network-performance

Hello Joon

I've checked with a colleague at AWS who is the prinicipal developer for Amazon's global network and infrastructure expansion about possible pS nodes.

He reports that Amazon's network management systems are generally all in-house and custom developed, with a high degree of automation.
