We have used both the BCC950 other USB webcams.  We find that the video on the Logitech 910/920 is more crisp than the BCC.

The BCC has the benefit of built in echo canceling microphone, but if you have 2 USB ports available you can get a Yamaha PJP10 and a Logitech C920 for about the same price as the BCC950 and get superior audio and video.

Regards,

Jeff

I have also had a lot of luck with the Logitech model too and I would suggest looking at zoom.us – great videoconferencing product.

I would echo Molly’s comment that the BCC950 is a good choice.

I’d also recommend the new C930e; although it can’t pan/tilt, it has a 90 degree field of view which might eliminate the need for P/T….

I too use the Logitech BCC950, it works very well.

Not inexpensive, but I generally consider Vaddio the leader for this particular application (see Vaddio ClearVIEW HD-USB).

Of course, if you only want zoom and don't need PTZ, you may be able to accomplish that less expensively with digital zoom (as opposed to optical).

I will save you the reiteration of my cautions about the quality of the experience you can expect from a laptop based solution - you can achieve good quality but it can take non-trivial effort.

Ben

Dear Videoconference Experts,

Hello!

I would like to use an external video camera --

that can zoom in and out -- with my MacBook Pro

for videoconferencing (Skype, Google Hangout, etc).

The MacBook Pro has USB and Firewire ports.

I am wondering if there are video cameras that

can zoom that would send a video image into

one of these ports.

I would be most grateful for any suggestions

regarding how to do this.

Many thanks,
