Thanks for that explanation, Sir. Yeah, we've all but fully automated 
patching thanks to the script you posted to the wiki, and that should help. 
We'll just keep that in mind when we rebuild. Perhaps there should be a note 
on the Grouper patching instructions page on the wiki mentioning that you 
must repatch after rebuilding? It should be common sense, but it obviously 
wasn't to us. :)

Looking forward to the Grouper workshop at TechEx so we can learn a few more 
tidbits like this!

Sorry, we have looked into making that feature available, but for various 
complex reasons, it was not feasible.  So yes, if you rebuild, you need to 
repatch.  Patching only is available on a built version of Grouper.  Note, 
you can setup your grouper.installer.properties to auto fill in prompts so 
patching should just be a matter of running one command and checking the 
output to make sure everything was ok.

Thanks, Chris. But I don't think I asked my main question very clearly.

If ant dist wipes out the dist directory and rebuilds it, and if patches are 
applied directly to the dist directory, are you saying that I have to 
re-patch every time I rebuild? Is it not possible to patch the build 
directory instead or something more permanent?
