Would you give some more details - OS and JDK version?

Is there a chance that there is an smtp.jar on your classpath somewhere 
e.g.  %JAVA_HOME%/jre/lib, or have you changed the one provided with the 
API?

In the grouper-ui/build.xml file you try modifying the ui.class.path. For 
each of the <fileset dir= tags add <exclude name='smtp.jar'/>. If you still 
get the error it would suggest that another smtp.jar is on the classpath.
