I am resigning as co-chair of the Internet2 VoIP Working Group effective October 1.

The Internet2 VoIP Working Group was announced by Harpal Chohan of Ohio State in May 2000.  When Harpal left OSU to join Cisco in March 2001, Walt Magnussen and I volunteered to be WG co-chairs.  During the past three and a half years the WG has grown from a handful of members, to 242 members as of this morning.  I’ve had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with some of the very best telecommunication talent and companies in the world, and to make many new friends.  Our H.323 gatekeeper project interconnected some 250,000 USA numbers with Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Mexico. Under the leadership of Dennis Baron and Jeremy George, our WG has been very actively involved with SIP.  We conducted four VoIP workshops that were heavily (perhaps too heavily) attended.  Each of these workshops was acclaimed in the participant’s feedback.   None of this would have been possible without your support.

I would like to express my deep appreciation to Walt Magnussen.  His vision, expertise, and enthusiasm were vital to our success.  He always gave freely of his time and energy not only to Internet2, but also to ACUTA, and a host of other organizations, projects, and initiatives.  Although he always seemed to be on the road, he directed the Texas A&M telecommunications department, while simultaneously completing his PhD.  One only needs to meet his staff to understand what a wonderful leader he is.  I think a couple of the secrets of his success are his great sense of humor and his deeply held loyalty to Texas A&M.  Thanks for all your support Walt!

Finally, to each WG member, I extend my heartfelt thanks and best wishes for every success in the future.  It has been a pleasure working with you at the frontier of information technology.

Sincerely yours,

Mike Enyeart
