It may be even more important for us to pay much more attention to
work done by groups outside of Internet 2 (e.g., IETF, 3GPP, the broad
private sector beyond the usual suspects, even Washington). It seems
to me that we run the danger of producing works that have the appearance
of classroom projects gone awry and pretty clearly haven't a snowball's
chance of being implemented on a meaningful scale.
The enterprise and Higher Ed is becoming targeted by integrated
communications vendors today. If we pay attention to what's going on,
we have an excellent opportunity to develop cutting edge implementations.
