Thanks Darian, that's good to know. I recall Google also had some
integration issues when putting their chat into iGoogle pages, and I think
even that was a trimmed down version of the standard (but I have no
references for that statement right now...)
I would be disappointed - but not surprised - if they did their own thing.

We are "edu" - thread hijacking is expected!

Last year there were rumblings that Google was moving away from XMPP to
a binary protocol, which they felt was more mobile device-friendly.
