All,
Here's a summary of where we would like to take the PIC.edu project, as
based on recent meetings and group discussions.  It is far from
complete, but hopefully it is a good start.  Let's continue the
discussion today.


PIC.edu Project

0.x
Objectives
- Recommend an IM solution which will interoperate with other similar
deployments
-- XMPP based server
-- ? Customization to server by PIC group / custom package?
-- Support evolution to PIC.edu 1.x and 2.x 
- Recommend (some) clients as part of the solution
- Provide cookbook solution for deployment, configuration, authN
integration, other?
- Provides at least basic IM functionality (chat, chatgroups, session
log, other?)
Tasks
- Decide on server type/version to start with, changes needed to support
PIC.edu
-- Investigate openfire vs jabberd (1.4), others?
- ? Deploy a server for demonstration, open to Internet2 members
-- Server open and available for use during the spring meeting
--- Perhaps make chatrooms for meetings? (virtual meeting during real
meeting?)
--- How to handle user accounts - creation, authN, etc?
- ? Funding available / needed for development
- Who participates in PIC.edu, who develops?
