Mozilla keeps saying no such protocol exists whenever it encounters
the sip tag. I have not seen where I can add sip as a recognized
protocol .

Jeff and all,
I've installed Session 2.1.1 under MacOS X (10.2.8) and it seems to
be working well. I register successfully with ser.uits.indiana.edu
and successfully complete calls to other registered users.
I wondered whether when Session is installed, it might configure
the installed browsers to deal with SIP URLs. So I added the
following line to a web page and clicked the link.
<br>SIP <A
HREF="sip:"></A>
I have the same question about mozilla.
