Just to add, then: I did an LDAP search against our AD and confirmed that
“Jack Lakin” is indeed a member of staff. Fortunately neither of the integer
strings Bill included from his wireshark dump appear to be important data (at
first glance, at least), although we’ll take a closer look at the data it’s
spitting out to make sure.

Bizarrely, I have a background in till systems that pre-dates my work at
Loughborough (as telephone manager and, before that, in networks and
streaming media, which is why I’m still on this list) and I’m guessing that
this is some lazy configuration on the part of the vendor to stream
transactions back from the tills to the back-office systems.
