Hi, yes, you are right.
I only dragged my cursor across the download button, and noticed it was an Apple server URL.
However, when you actually click on the download, you are redirected to the VLC servers.

I still don't think Apple would promote or link to this if it placed their users in an inherently illegal position.
To me it's still the free car that you have to drive legally.
What is legal use is the issue...
I still have not heard of any lawsuits against VLC, or VLC use, with millions of users out there.

Not sure how much of a difference this makes, but as far as I can tell Apple does not actually host any VLC files. Instead they point you to the VideoLAN downloads page. However they do have a nice webpage for it and even mention that you can use VLC to read DVDs.
