Discussion of Steve's issues

It's difficult to get network engineers to look at stuff in sync in real
time across many administrative domains.

Tools to enable the knowledgeable end user to collect diagnostic data
when the problem is occurring so it can be diagnosed are needed:

- Collect state of all routers in the path on demand.
- Extend the number of looking glasses at gigapops and campuses and to
include multicast commands (Abilene proxy already has these).
- Install multicast measurement boxes (use existing boxes):
- run ssmpingd
- allow bwctl to set up iperf to a multicast group to enable
divide-and-conquer debugging of multicast state problems.
- Acquire/develop a tool to walk looking glasses and/or snmp proxies to
analyze the collected state (similar to the traceroute analyzer
demonstrated at the gigapop geeks bof).

Priorities:

1. Looking glasses in gigapops, campuses w/multicast commands
2. tool to walk looking glasses/snmp proxies
3. install ssmpingd on Abilene measurement boxes
4. bwctl support for iperf multicast.

Stig also presented ssmping/asmping and an experimental v4-v6 multicast
gateway. His slides will be available shortly. See
