You can or will be able to shortly be able to buy switches with mldv2 support in them... the point is the switches currently in your network are never going to support it so it's at least one replacement cycle away. I would assert that having enough v6 multicast on your network that you need to worry about snooping would be a good problem to have... It's not one I currently face.

I don't think the snooping issue is a problem specific to v6 SSM. If a
switch can't do MLDv2 snooping, there's a pretty good chance it can't do
MLDv1 snooping either.

Host support is definitely a problem for SSM, though.
