perhaps "conferencing" is too strong a word - perhaps "listening to a conference" is a useful multicast application. You have the capability to interrupt, but you aren't require to source video or audio to "eavesdrop" - and if the "conference" is stimulating enough, the multicast reduces the bandwidth demands on your local infrastructure. I think an interesting experiment to demonstrate this would be to take the Victoria's Secret annual webcast & multicast it to Abilene connectors & then monitor the joins on each campus ...

Because the size of the group isn't large enough to make multicast
necessary. It can be accomplished just as well via multicast.
Kind of like the argument Shep, Dino, Amit and I are having right now
over AOL. :-)
