For what it's worth, the new SIP-to-Skype gateway software is now available on the rsdevs.com site with arbitrary Skype destinations. It's $39.95, which is a bit expensive, but you could create a single outbound caller that functions as your Skype "trunk" to any number of destination users.

(Note: I'm not associated with the vendor except that I have paid for those changes to be implemented to my specifications. I don't get paid for any sales of this software.)

It seems I have overlooked the most important detail, and that is where to obtain this software, or at least where to obtain the most recent version (which does not yet, as I mentioned, support direct SIP AOR dissection into Skype usernames, but I'm sure will be available soon):

If anyone wants to examine the call quality, just email me first, then you can call me at and I'll pick up with Skype instead of on my desk phone.

Pretty ambitious! Lots of us wish we could use Skype with SIP. Thanks for providing all the details.

Apologies for mentioning another semi-vaporware item, but this seems interesting and I actually have it running (in pre-release mode.)

This is another Skype add-on, but it converts SIP to Skype. It can work both ways, but I typically only use it as a one-way conversion in my PBX-like environments. (SIP->Skype) It allows me to assign a new SIP URI to users which actually is their Skype ID.
