Notwithstanding how completely I disagree with your entire premise, nothing
is stopping you. In fact that's pretty much what comanage is doing.

But to answer your question, Internet2 will probably have to tolerate my
design choices as long as they want me to keep writing the software. And I
will never encourage the use of non-portable or language-specific APIs, at
least not as a primary vehicle.

(LDAP is neither, of course, I just happen to dislike it, nor is it
reasonable to require people to run a local data store just to run a secure
web app.)
