That's not really the issue here. We could rebuild on top of 2.7 now and it
would work fine, mostly. And 3.0 already will include the only other changes
I made, in better form.
The issue isn't Xerces, it's the fact that RPM is broken when it comes to
library versioning. Anything we put out is risking a collision with somebody
who just decides to start inserting the same library into a distro. And
dealing with the distros directly is really beyond my scope of work right
now, so I think I either need to stop or sidestep.
With Red Hat itself, we have a stable target I think, so if at a given
release I have to build a certain set of packages, that should stay
consistent for the life of that release, I think. Fedora OTOH is complete
chaos.
