I filed a bug to track some thoughts for reducing the memory footprint or
improving the cache performance, so feel free to suggest anything that comes
to mind.

My own testing does suggest it's a little out of hand, but I don't see any
per-request leaks, so whatever's happening is probably just bad design, not
errors.
