I'm all for this in general, but I'd note that there are people who can move to 1.5 (or 5 as I think we are now supposed to call it) but can't easily move to tomcat 5.5. For example, someone on Linux and making use of the jpackage.org system can't do this because they don't have a tomcat 5.5 available yet; apparently there are major dependency issues.

I have personally had no trouble with J2SE 5 plus tomcat 5.0 so far, as long as you *remove* the endorsed libraries that come with tomcat. I realise that doesn't make it a supported configuration in any sense, it is just an observation.
